The Daily PakistanPolitics-July 27, 2009

  • Jul27-2009--In what can only be said tobe an inability to get constitutional change the PPP regime abdicated all responsibility for the LG system and said that provinces can do with it what they want...many suggest that even if the provinces are responsible for designing their own systems it is teh responsibility of teh center to at least give an overall legislation giving such responsibility to teh provinces..the center should at least ensure that it is a democratic process and does not turn into an autocratic dictatorship of teh chief ministership as envisaged by the punjab PMLn...
  • Jul27-2009--The PPP also tried to show that it did not have a duality inits views about musharaf and would allow teh courts to decide the various issues related to musharafs coup initiated rule...there have been varying signals from teh PPP with one sindhi member saying that musharaf was a personal friend...many have opined that many in the PPP heirarchy had actually been advising musharaf in various sinister ways...

  • Jul26-2009--In what many see as a shrinking of the oil bill from $11.64 to $9.509 in 2008-9..could be a ballooning in quantity due to the massive fall in oil prices..pakistani imports shrank in general barring a few food products...such as sugar, wheat, tea and pulses and power generation machinery
  • Jul26-2009--In what many see as a surprise the supposedly straight barring hiring relatives yusuf raza gilani seems to have a corrupt wife...she apparently was part of two companies who refused to return agricultural loans of Rs.71 million and over Rs.100 million...one wondered where they had got their money...NAB judge refuses to back down

    The Daily PakistanPolitics--July 19-22, 2009

  • Jul22-2009--In what may describe teh SC of this time and the future teh chief justice cleared the 2008 elections saying they were held under teh constitution...whether something is legal when one part of teh government isn't constitutional is something only the SC can say and do...earlier it has given strange decisions about military rule and its consequences and dealt with teh government of coup plotters and given them legality as it basically supported authoritarianism and opposed teh mixed up roles that politicians play...the SC must clearly state that coup plotters are never well intentioned and are bad army types...SC praises parliament on not validating Nov3 actions although not doing anything about it too... how it sees musharaf going scot free of any blame is difficult to understand...The chief justice said that they could visit the Iqbal tikka case but their judgments would not be retrospective showing teh court tobe frightened of dealing with many or some past wrongs...of late teh SC chief justice has blamed teh court for the execution of a primeminister and toppling governments by teh military and giving them sustenance...
  • Jul22-2009--mild to ferocious protests erupted in teh punjab over electricity outages and price hikes by the traders who went on a strike..a train was torched in jhang...
  • Jul22-2009--Indians told of their involvement in pakistans internal troubles as indian intelligence agencies based in afghanistan and iran have long had a direct hand in pakistans troubles..pakistan did not mention iran while teh USA only adopted a mild approach to indian involvement in terrorist activities...while being xtremely harsh with pakistan. Hillary however did make some sort of a parallel with teh guantanamo prisoners and those held by pakistan for teh bombay incidents...
  • Jul22-2009--in continuing operations in dir 12 militants were killed and security forces have taken control of many militant held areas
  • Jul22-2009--Everybody has their own angle on the power crisis...Raja ashraf says he has almost overcome teh crisis...wapda says bhasha will solve it...zardari has come out with electricity from tashkent..sindh wants electricity from air and Lakhra coal and Asim says that teh expensive iranian gas will solve teh problem of power fuels...while yusuf raza and teh WB/IMF say extremely high prices will solve teh problem...availability and keeping prices reasonable are the essence for the pakistani economy..Since 1982 the government has been unable to keep a sustainable power policy with many failed schemes which included only hydel power...save electricity etc. etc.....many suggest that unless the government keeps prices in control nobody will need electricity soon..? and that an overall electricity handling group might be needed to control IPP's, fuel providers like PSO and sui gas companies, Pepco, KESC, Wapda and other related organizations such as distribution companies..IMF/WB and the mean and nasty ministry of finance and power...karachis industrialists say that a captive power plant costs Rs5 per unit while PEPCO/KESC is charging Rs9 which shows unnecessary profits..by the state

  • Jul21-2009--rain related death toll rises to 41 in karachi
  • Jul21-2009--The LG system was seen tobe relatively successful in grass roots development and even law enforcement was better handled apart from heavy rioting ...the current provincial governments attempt to push teh clock back and bring back provincial controls on law and order and development...Zardari who is generally influenced by teh mqm is backing out after punjab refused to share administrator appointments..law and order is also improving and only elections should be held under administrators...the PPP which under Benazir had been behind the concept of devolution would have preferred political administrators but the PMLn prefers teh beaurocracy...
  • Jul20-2009--Asim Hussein tries to justify the high cost of iranian gas which according to some sources is the most expensive gas in the world of pipelines...given current usage patterns it would not be available to generate power alone..asim had earlier suggested that the gas was so expensive that it could only be justified if used for power generation...
  • Jul20-2009--people in karachi protested at rain related power outages...instead of helping solve issues karachis educated started rioting...karachi says it lost power due to a 500KV kine outage at guddu which seems ridiculous as most of its power is locally generated...28 deaths reported in almost record rainfall that had karachi almost entirely flooded..karachiites many say are paranoid...
  • Jul20-2009--Asim Hussein is trying to explain away teh governments bad policy on petroleum pricing...taking taxes of Rs18-22 on a price of Rs63 is a bit harsh anyway...his calculation of Rs37 as the refinery price might be too high... It might be cheaper to import refined products instead many suggest...others suggest that the government should use the middle east oil price as teh base rather than western oil prices
  • Jul20-2009--PMLn says it will appoint all administrators in punjab and no share tobe given to PPP
  • Jul20-2009--In what many see as a mockery of not only free tractor distribution or discounted tractors teh chief secretary punjabs son and wife got a tractor each...why everyone in a family needs a tractor is hard to fathom...small landholders can easily rent tractors as they need it for a day or two in a season...tractors dont improve agriculture in themselves
  • Jul20-2009--three terrorists killed in malakand
  • Jul19-2009--In what many say is teh musharaf doctrine continuing who had thought that india in a few years would itself suggest a kashmir solution but that didnt happen...now yusuf raza says he will build trust thru talks...trust for what end...meaningless..seems that yusuf raza has some views about indians that are not based on reality...indians have never solved any problem preferring that they have a propaganda item whenever necessary... mere talks solve nothing...either pakistan should give up or talk aggressively on the issue...he says that he fights only those who fight teh writ of teh government and not its external enemies...in a mild rejoinder to the bombay incident pakistan gave india a dossier on what it had on indian involvement...in balochistan...they were also involved in swat and Fata..many say..
  • Jul19-2009--heavy rains in karachi, hyderabad and upper sindh...18 dead..roads flooded, cars marooned..68 powerlines snapped and karachi was without power and water

  • Jul19-2009--despite teh immense problems generated by the  KESC privatization government bent upon privatizing other good and bad power distribution companies...
  • Jul19-2009--as the USA claims that india is a friend they say that they will still not start brokering a solution on kashmir immediately and will only urge india to open up...the uSA while being extremely harsh with pakistan is taking teh softest of approaches to india and is not even willing to take up issues on which it literally dictates to pakistan..india many say is deeply involved in trying to destabilize pakistan in every possible way whether it be karachi, multan, balochistan, swat or fata...
  • Jul19-2009--In what many say is a zardari like action who ordered link canals to punjab closed for a month a baloch minister closed the grang regulator to sindh for four hours...sindh is responsible for teh baloch share of 6000 cusecs..balochistan getting less than 2200 cusecs... ...rangers were called in to open teh regulator to the canal in sindh...
  • Jul19-2009--security forces destroy the lashkar i islam center outside peshawar
  • Jul 19-2009--many suggest that teh PPP and PMLn should restudy their liking for a subordinate LG system controlled by beaurocrats even though teh LG system served teh interests of the military dictatorship...winning elections should be the target/route to LG power and allowing substantial powers to devolve to district systems should be preferable as long as they work within the framework of teh country...crushing a system into disfiguration is not preferable and u might as well create a new one with new names...teh word nazim reminded everyone of teh jamat i islami...The worst part of the LG system is the extreme unequal distribution of resources and many suggest that is where the provincial governments should reccommend real change...

    The Daily PakistanPolitics-July 18, 2009

  • Jul18-2009--Nawaz Sharif acquitted in plane hijacking case by the SC...musharaf and his henchmen wanted a death sentence which if carried out would have made musharaf a hero in sindh and a villain in punjab...teh courts at that time had refused a death sentence and teh machiavellian nature of musharaf allowed nawaz sharif to leave teh country despite a sentence of life imprisonment...many had said at that time that musharaf had paid for nawaz sharif giving him an out of turn army chiefship...judges who seem to have woken up after a decade now say that there was no hijacking or anything like it while at that time an ATC judgement had been upheld...by teh SHC...nawaz sharif can now participate in politics...
  • Jul18-2009--Nawaz Sharif and Zardari meet again after eight months as zardari goes to raiwind...sharif who is supposedly a gilani supporter was told that ANP and mqm insist on pukhtunkhwa and provincial autonomy...both have generally been rejected and nawaz sharif would find it difficult to support an 18th amendment that was not clearly pro primeminister or which did not allow him tobe primeminister again...The ANP and mqm are not really required to support an amendment and nawaz sharif and his brother gave zardari secret advice about how to go about things...many suggest that the PPP is clearly divided betwwen teh anti people gilani and the sindhi wadera who might not be interested in losing all his power...zardari only seems interested in what the mqm wants or what he perceives tobe good for sindh...he seems to have little interest in teh punjab and many critisize his cronyistic attitudes.. he also replaced tariq aziz with salman farooki as the talks envoy to india...in sindh provincial autonomy means how to usurp even more water from punjab and get them to sign on an NFC which is supposedly even worse than teh one created by musharaf and pervaiz elahi...The PPP wants to appoint all local government administrators since it is still a federal matter..zardaris strange nature was noted by many as this is his first visit to lahore after becoming president...political leaders in power apparently prefer visiting areas where they have camp offices...
  • Jul18-2009--The sindhi nature of teh PPP regime was explained even in more detail when the ecnec dams proposal was announced ...sindh given 21.6 billlion, balochistan 22.3 billion, punjab 5.7 billion and nwfp 3.4 billion...it must be terribly difficult to build dams in balochistan and sindh...or might be teh dams in punjab are tiny small ones
  • Jul18-2009--The UN commission on Benazir wants only voluntary infomation and they dont want to summon anyone..apparently it is just another scotland yard type thing and will try to explain how it happened...a lot of information is now available to pakistan and teh UN on teh issue and still teh government has made no move to apprehend or detain anyone...
  • Jul18-2009--The ministry of water and power in an advert since no one is now willing to even print anything on their power politics gave a list of 19 projects which they say will enable load shedding to end in december...at the moment load shedding has reached a new high in rawalpindi and one cannot say what is happening in other areas..how Pepco or whoever does it will be able to handle the generally private sector projects and whether they can get and maintain fuel supplies is as yet unknown...
  • Jul18-2009--Hillary Clinton who apparently seems to have given up on the kashmir issue faster than anyone in US history saying it is a pakistan-india bilateral issue says that her visit to india should not threaten pakistan...since teh US has always projected indian views one just hopes that they will not create even further trouble for pakistan...the troubles they created in pakistan over teh last decade are an example that she should not talk to teh indnians about pakistans internal issues since she will be avoiding talking about bilateral issues...
  • Jul18-2009--In what many say is teh dual nature of teh indians manmohan refused to talk to pakistan despite agreeing to delink terrorism and other issues.. one hopes he will by now have realized that the cause is there tobe pursued and everything is directed at that..The indian opposition saw no point in their avoiding talks with pakistan for eight months...manmohan is being accused of a sell out...many say the BJP thought that the bombay incident would aid them but teh opposite happened...

  • The Daily PakistanPolitics--July17, 2009

  • Jul17-2009--Manmoham singh had barely gotten back when he announced that no talks would be held with pakistan after agreeing to reopen what can only be said tobe face saving talks in sharm al sheik...delinking terrorism and composite talks should have meant that talks should start on pakistans agenda as well as india's...pakistan will have to continue its foot dragging until the indians come to both tables...

  • Jul17-2009--Irsa starts making trouble for punjab as it denies punjabs request for water from the tarbela dam for the southern areas of jhang, multan, vehari and bahawalpur where three million acres of cotton are at stake...zardari has started to play water politics with areas of southern punjab generally thought to be a PPP stronghold...punjab says mangla needs tobe filled and tarbela link canals are meant to functions as canals and not flood canals...anyway floods only occur late in august and punjabs demands should be given priority....

  • Jul17-2009--ISI official shot dead in lower dir
  • Jul17-2009--yusuf raza gilani obviously bamboozled manmohan sindh saying that they had completed investigations on teh bombay incident and had enough on Hafiz saeed to initiate a case...others suggest that fours others have been identified as teh main culprits and who have not been apprehended as yet...upto now no specific allegations or involvement have been specified and all they have are supposed phone call conversations in which unidentified people were supposedly controlling the bombay militants who were obviously in over their heads and had no specific plan and just went along and did what was ordered...government will obviously make another attempt to apprehend and hold hafiz saeed
  • Jul17-2009--zardari and nawaz sharif to meet today...sindh and punjab at odds over water and NFC and Zardari has been personally involved in denying water to punjab...others say their strategy worked on altaf hussain and will work on nawaz sharif too...nawaz sharif not a dupe others say and thanking him will only make him suspicious rather than want to be drowned in a PPP government with a generalized anti people bent of mind...
  • Friday, July 17, 2009

    The Daily PakistanPolitics--July 16, 2009

  • July16-2009--The indian primeminister who is aligned to both teh US and Russia continued talking to thin air at the NAM summit rather than offering any concrete way out of indias continued occupation of muslim kashmir...if terror groups are tobe dealt with than pakistan has already done more than enough having already dismantled both groups involved in the bombay incident..it is india that should also start to dismantle its hindu dominated terrorist groups that terrorize muslims, christians and sikhs...It should also stop terrorism and abetting terrorism in kashmir where youth are still daily picked up and killed for no reason..while terrorism in pakistan has no reason or cause or religion in india it is directed at teh occupation of kashmir and indias suppression of them and other areas thru state terror...india has still not done anything about the samjotha blast...if india will not talk about a kashmir solution than what are pakistan and kashmiris todo...no improvement is reported in indian attitudes with pakistan still willing to lick their shoes for even a few crumbs...pakistan even refusing a joint statement if teh indians donot start normalising things...pakistan would many say be willing to go to any length even complying with an extradition request...but india is not willing to offer anything barring meaningless talks...
  • July16-2009--five militants and two civilians killed in aerial raids on south waziristan and rocket attacks on khechi in jandolla...troops with 25 tanks moved to miramshah from mirali...a curfew was imposed on convoy movement areas in north waziristan...one security personnel killed in a bomb attack at the banda checpost and two as an FC convoy hit an IED in bakakhel mandi , Bannu...

  • July16-2009--The SC backed out of adjudicating on a petition against teh PDL ordinance...saying that SC not teh proper forum for challenging such a government decision
  • July16-2009--Asif Zardari who is said to refuse anything that teh mqm dislikes is in a quandary over teh changes required in teh LG ordnance where teh provinces seek the powers to appoint administrators...with an mqm dominated LG system in karachi nobody else will have a chance as is also the case in punjab where all teh nazims are from teh PMLq...they also want magistrates reincarnated and if the local bodies deal only with municipal functions the power of the mqm especially will be diluted...in earlier reports teh mqm had apparently agreed to give teh PPP the governorship and teh karachi nazim position however zardari, asim and rehman malik keep thanking altaf hussein but get nothing in return...
  • July16-2009--In karachi a leader of teh outlawed SSP killed..in another incident an mqm-h man was killed...police say either that they have no clue or teh youth involved cannot be arrested...?In june 47 were killed and 21 in july...since this war started 48 mqmh, 20 mqm, 8 PPP, six ANP, three SSP, two pMLn, and three from various religious groups...while altaf hussein indicated today(assumed: that he might have ordered the killings on) the receipt of 28 letters which he said the government should read...the mohajirs should know that in politics nobody tells teh truth and going around killing opponents wont solve anything

  • July16-2009--Asim says that government at fault in only nomenclature of carbon tax which is the exact opposite of the peoples views...says diesel price rising internationally and government could start giving the price of next months tariff...says 71% gas produced in sindh,21% in balochistan, 6% in punjab and 2% in nwfp while usage is Punjab 46%, sindh 44%, balochistan 6% and nwfp 4%...pakistan never had a problem when gas was only produced in balochistan...sindh creates problems whenever it has to give something like water to balochistan...
  • July16-2009--government blocks balochunity website...leave some freedoms many tell teh PPP...!!
  • July16-2009--SBP says 50% of oil imports to be paid by other banks...while teh finance ministry, WB and ADB try to function as parliament and only agree to 60 billion for power subsidies...teh government has already massively increased electricity prices and tolerance for government gobbledygook on such subjects is wearing thin...
  • July16-2009--rickshaws banned from pindis three main arteries...or roads
  • Thursday, July 16, 2009

    The Daily PakistanPolitics- July15, 2009

  • Jul15-2009--In what many see as a mockery of pakistans sovreignity Salman Basheer teh foreign secretary says that jailing people if india requires it is equality, mutual respect and mutual interest apart from serious, sustained and pragmatic cooperation..meaning that india can do what it wants while pakistan will be an apologetic subjugated state unable to even ask for anything...many suggest that he should have taken a dictionary along as teh mean natured indians dont know teh meaning of such words...pakistan seeking a continuation of teh upto now meaningless composite dialogue...since teh seventies it has benefited india as trade is liberalised and transport mechanisms such as the samjotha express and bus services setup with no solution to any problem having been achieved...
  • Jul15-2009--23 militants killed in clash with a tribal lashkar in mohmand..
  • Jul15-2009--IDP's continue to return
  • Jul15-2009--In what many see as mqm's achieving its hit list.. meaning knocking out all altafs personal opponents in karachi in an almost daily killing routine as the PPP still praises such cooperation from altaf hussein... the interior minister says a judicial probe to be conducted...they see it as an attempt to destabilize karachi where it has almost no effect on the one track mohajirs..karachis status as an economic hub has no meaning to the rest of teh country now...it is basically an mqm-mqmh war and police officials should see it clearly as that...unless they and intelligence walas are involved themselves

    The Daily PakistanPolitics-July13-2009

  • Jul13-2009--the government stumbling under its anti people policies seems unnerved enough to take on people who use teh internet to send ill motivated emails and sms warning of 14 year sentences rather than rectifiying its anti people policies...such emails have been used against military dictatorships and harsh and mean rulers and it seems that teh government has started to feel the barbs that are commonly transmitted...teh government has been behaving in a manner similar to a harsh military dictatorship...
  • Jul13-2009--teh army destroying caves inhabited by militants in swat killing one militant...the army moving to control areas around south waziristan...moving into Tank and areas of lakki marwat and kulachi area of DI khan...bhittanis militants vacated Tank as the military moved in...planes continued to bomb baitullah bases in south waziristan killing eight as one soldier also died in an attack on a checpost...
  • Jul13-2009--Yusuf raza gilani an unpopular person  and who did not lead the PPP into elections is bent upon returning teh system to one dominated by a powerful primeminister...unless he is seen as a representative of the masses with popular policies such a system would not work...the PPP stuck with no real popular leader and basing its government on infighting between regional areas and a dictatorial economy having no attraction for teh awam...

  • The Daily PakistanPolitics--July12, 2009

  • Jul12-2009--the government continues to follow teh same old policy of dictators to tax teh peopel into subjugation...After increasing electricity prices by a hefty 70% it still claims that it is subsidizing electricity...It now wants us to believe that teh IMF not parliament not people not government but teh IMF allows a six month continuation of electricity prices at teh present level...If the IMF, the WB and government wont allow it why should people subsidize electricity to teh poor...teh government should have its head examined if it thinks that such poppycock economics is something that according to Gilani is the best that he can do......if tax money cannot be used to ease peoples woes than there is no point left in government...one doesn't think that teh government has any real development policy which could be of interest to teh people and therefore if taxation cannot be used to reduce electricity and petroleum prices than the government should go home...what is it better at than the crazies at teh finance ministry...on the PDL/carbon tax another useless extortion like teh 16% sales tax on electricity teh government has no answer..apparently the PPP has advised its members to shut up and play dumb.....it cant even say that we are taxing petroleum to reduce its use...given the hike in prices of literally everything of upto 200% one fails to understand what teh goverment is upto...

  • Jul 11-2009--yusuf raza gilani wants to hide behind parliament in teh bad financial mechanisms of his government...teh parliament has shown no indication that it is representing teh peopel when its decisions are literally nothing but support for a system of bad governance...parliament has been supporting teh government rather than representing teh peopel...there are not many people amongst teh 160 million that gilani cites who support teh governments whacky economic decisions...
  • Jul 10-2009--In what can be said to be a mockery of both governance and teh judiciary the attorney general said that teh carbon tax was a mistake and zardari had promulgated an ordinance to reintroduce teh PDL and again raise petroleum prices within a day...The SC after listening to harsh remarks against teh government adjourned teh hearing for four weeks...in theory we now have both teh suspended carbon tax as well as a PDL...The gilani suggestion that he was unaware of teh reasoning behind teh carbon tax shows his lack of expertise in economic matters and that so called economic experts would explain the issue to the judges after their return from gallivanting in foreign countries...teh counsel said that the issue of the ordnance was malafide and repugnant as it was meant to repudiate teh judiciary...gilani on teh other hand suggested that parliament had passed teh budget without any objection...both the judiciary and teh government have taken a stance aginst parliament in the matter..SC to review petroleum prices later as lawyers said that teh PDL and whether taxes can be imposed thru an ordnance will also be challenged...

    The Daily PakistanPolitics--July 9, 2009

  • Jul9-2009--A frightened set of provincial and federal governments postpones local bodies polls and opts for administrators instead...provincial governments seemingly want to create their own controlled almost dictatorial local bodies which cannot overshadow them...local governments under military rule had performed well however their powers had been consistently reduced by teh chief ministers as they perfomed better than provincial governments who were all but invisible..when the law and order will improve is unknown so the people might have to stay under teh so called neutral or supposedly honest beurocrats a species not known tobe common in pakistan..worried provincial governments also did not allow a census to go forward not wanting their provincial populations to reduce their NFC funds
  • Jul9-2009--Yusuf Raza Gilanis support of the abominable carbon tax has many suggesting that people like him , hina and tareen would be better off working in the FBR rather than in responsible political positions ...finances and budgets are not only about collecting funds but knowing what the people want and keeping their interests in front rather than avoiding them at all costs.....
  • Jul9-2009--two drone attacks kill 38 in south waziristan...it had been hoped that drones would shift to monitoring/intelligence work but it seems that the pakistan armed forces might have backed out from a major operation in south waziristan given recent attacks...baitullah camps said to have been attacked

  • Jul9-2009--A dawn editorial states that zardaris criticism of taleban as the militaries strategic asset who turned against teh state virtually negates the reason for their creation to fight initially teh russian invasion and as a by product attempting to liberate kashmir from indian occupation/hegemony and fight teh US occupation of afghanistan.....one must realize that fighting teh superpowers has been a time honoured tradition stretching from vietnam to afghanistan even thought the super powers have eventually become successful as states like india , china, russia and pakistan have succumbed to US might and wealth..whether problems like kashmir can be and afghanistan could have been solved without force is obviously doubtful since zardaris mentors teh US are using that same mechanism their...if u cannot use guerrillas and in a similar vein jihadis and taleban to fight wars when your army is weak or frightened to fight openly... than your army must learn to fight teh countries battles whether they be in afghanistan, tribal areas or kashmir...or elswhere since they supposedly have been fighting on a worldwide level..however one doubts that teh regimented army could have created a force that would be willing to fight it and teh country too..and whether the army can really fight a war is doubtful too

    The Daily PakistanPolitics--July8, 2009

  • Jul8-2009--Supreme Court puts carbon tax on hold...Ogra immediately notifies new petrol price of Rs50.53...The carbon tax and other taxes almost double the price of petroleum products in pakistan and the cause is governments single minded blind attitude of taxation, taxation and taxation...it just could not let go of teh Rs100 billion it was making from the PDL...it not only reinvented the levy but also increased it to generate Rs113 billion...The peoples protests had no bearing on the assembly or teh government...The court was right in that the government did not need the money asits efforts to clean up teh environment were minimal..The dumb primeminister obviously learnt nothing and said they would defend their excessive and needless taxation...

  • Jul8-2009--two more mqm-h activist killed in karachi
  • Jul8-2009--Sindhis have serious misconceptions about many things..one that they can close teh indus link canals...if there was a serious shortage of water in sindh than punjab could giveup some share of indus water...the mangla dam has tobe used to store some water in case the rains are delayed since tarbela is almost working as run of teh river dam due to sindhs exceptional water requirements..another misconception is that sindh was the richest province at partition...sindh at that time had only one textile mill, no agriculture of any worth and literally no resources...punjab on teh other hand was india's grain feeder and had discovered oil...sindh comparative to 1947 has increased agricultural production substantially, is the leader in industrialization, education and commerce and has discovered oil, gas and coal...one doubts that teh servants of sindh have their heads on teh right way...if sindhis donot get admission it is their own fault and teh PPP regimes failure is the same in all provinces...obviously teh other provinces have been hard at work too and everyone has to help out the IDP's...it is really quit horrific that sindhis oppose IDP's...immigration and migration take place usually due to economics and strife and people go to places where there is more opportunity...one finds it difficult to understand teh sindhi attitude...

  • Jul7-2009--The SC restrains teh PPP regime from raising electricity prices...teh government thinks that load shedding will end in december and than they can go after teh people with even more expensive electricity...The SC should realize that teh government is over charging teh peopel and unrestrained hikes in electricity prices are not conducive or right for teh economy or the peopel

  • July4-2009--Yusuf Raza Gilani not the best of analysers and who seems generally simplistic in attitude or lacking any real political vision seems set against teh almost popular claim for a seraiki province...the smaller provinces would be happy to see punjab divided into two or even three and teh seraikis suggest that they have been enslaved by lahore...it could be a good move althought it troubles other provinces as they also have provincial movements...the basis of the four pakistani provinces has become suspect as they are no longer dominated by a single ethnic component
  • July4-2009--many are mocking the PPP's zardari-gilani government which seeks friendly relations with neighbours in a region where there is no friendliness... all the countries in the region have a tough attitude towards them ...even iran remained intransigent on an exorbitantly high gas price which they meekly gave in to...a country can only be successful when it tolerates no nonsence and is tough and hardline onits positions

    The Daily PakistanPolitics--July3, 2009

talks with india are usually meaningless as they just refuse to talk substance on the only real issue...is this an india that pakistan wants to be friendly too...?teh taleban at least fight frontally...india even refuses to do that but its cloak and dagger operations are such that the pakistani government remains suspicious but unable to fight in real terms...when teh indians really want a solution on kashmir than pakistan should show a willingness to talk otherwise they should appoint a retired general who can talk on the minor issues...the peoples party regime is unable to devise a consistent policy on anything barring price hikes and thinks that just putting up a show will accomplish things while they watch on teh sidelines..they seem tobe handling religious terrorism with a a macho toughness, peoples problems with a total brutality and attempting to ride out  regional and ethnic terrorism with a soft approach as if that really frightens them...!!they seem unsure what provincial autonomy means mixing it up with literally seperate statehood and seem unsure whether provinces should have the  right to block transportation, road systems and electricity, gas and water resources from other provinces...they also have a mixed up view on taxation and how much monetary extortion is enough and how to distribute it...seemingly they think that taxing teh people into subjugation without any real devlopment or ideas is what an economy is all about...

  • Jul2-2009--Benazirs investigation to begin with a three member international team...whether there is anything to be found and whether the government has any clues are not yet known...many people believe that people close to the killing have been eliminated...others suggest that it might have been a PPP political ploy that went wrong..many also believe that she died of a long range bullet that pierced her skull while the military regime said that she hit her head onto a window knob...some say she died of the suicide bombers or assassins bullet which hit her at the base of her neck..an international conspiracy theory has recently come to teh fore while others state that musharaf-shujaat and teh sindh chief minister could have been involved as they were already getting rid of opposing politicians...a conspiracy by baitullah mehsud or other religious local or international mullahs is also theorized with indian involvement...what is at presently known is that teh assassin worked on orders of someone from karachi in cooperation with assassins from the fata and religious associates in rawalpindi...

    The Daily PakistanPolitics--July 1, 2009

  • July 1, 2009--In what is being seen as continued resistance from swat militants 16 were killed alongwith three soldiers...army is probably less careful thinking the job is done and is losing more soldiers daily...they recovered an explosives laden vehicle...In Dir teh lashkar destroyed 15 militant hideouts and killed two..an explosion in a Buner bazaar
  • July 1, 2009--utilities being restored in most of swat...and shangla..impersonators of armymen reported causing trouble in IDP camps...
  • July 1, 2009--Reports suggest that mna's are being seen as useless people after they could not stop teh government from raising prices unnecessarily..their image is falling as fast as that of teh government...despite huge electricity price hikes last year the government wants to burden teh peopel even more than ever before with another huge electricity and petroleum price hike..the primeminister showed that the government was not short of funds when it raised teh mna development funds to Rs20 million and that its policies were deliberately designed to hurt the people...in their daily lives...teh peopel will now have to pay for power utility salary hikes and teh governments ill advised petroleum hikes which will raise transport costs in teh huge army, government, transportation and obviously the peopel will have to pay for the related price hikes in other fields...while teh government pays lip service to bussiness sectors they have also been unable to restrict teh governments one line economic policy of price hikes, price hikes and price hikes...
  • July 1, 2009--car bombs kill four in kalat
  • July 1, 2009--the government which has caused huge losses to the people without compensation reduces gas prices by a miniscule 2%..earlier they had hiked gas prices sharply last year....
  • July 1, 2009--at least seven militants killed as jets pounded positions in north waziristan while taleban banned peoples meetings with government officials
  • July 1, 2009--while shah mahmood qureashi took solace in a month old story of teh indians thinking of reducing troops in kashmirs urban areas an indian delegation in washington was urging teh USA to decrease aid to pakistan as it would be used to strengthen the military on teh indian borders...pakistan like india trying to strengthen its awacs capability and acquire new workhorse planes for its airforce...teh JF-17 whose assembly in pakistan started is supposed to have state of teh art forward looking capabilities while many think that visually it is not too sleek even if the airforce chief said that it was a light combat aircraft...pakistan has been restricted by the USA to refurbish its fleet of aging F-16's which are still its frontline reaction force...many think the JF17 is designed on the version of teh russian SU30 and the american F-15/18...if the indians are not a threat to pakistan than pakistans military strength should not worry them...the indians have backed down twice in recent years based on what pakistan might throw back at them...however pakistan has been unable to restrict indian orchestrated terrorism both in teh political and terrorist fields......many have suggested that indian evacuation from kashmir follow the USA inits evacuation from iraq..?
  • July 1, 2009--suicide bomber kills eight on afghan side of torkham checkpost...
  • July 1, 2009--even punjabs politicians think of teh high cost of maintaining the military and its huge retired component..rana sanaullah retorted that he will calculate teh cost of maintaining the retired faujis after a retired fauji questioned the cost of Rs4.8 million per day of teh provincial assembly..a retired fauji who lives longer due to an easier life is usually cared for by teh government to his death...provincial assembly to censure prisons minister for his unruly behaviour...
  • July 1, 2009--bajaur taleban leader surrenders..a security man killed in attack on convoy in janikhel area
  • July 1, 2009--zardari insists on friendly relations with india...it is just not possible given teh hinduistic control freak mean indian nature ..he also wants provincial autonomy....obviously by that he means that he should be allowed to stop water to canals in punjab or punjabs complete subjugation.. that too is not possible as than balochistan and sindh will refuse to sell their gas to punjab and sindh and nwfp also want the right to refuse electricity sales to other provinces..one baloch politician wants no port and only fishing allowed on its coast.....also sindh wants its coal electricity and air electricity to be exorbitantly priced...apart from that nwfp and punjab will than have to stop river waters from flowing downstream...punjab would like its wheat tobe paid for...karachi will say our port facilities should be priced upwards or cannot be used by other provinces etc. etc....with nwfp, sindh and balochistan even unable to tolerate people from other provinces moving around..provincial autonomy to the extent taht it is practised at present is teh only way possible otherwise all teh provinces will set up walls and blockades in every possible way and bring everything to a halt...provincial autonomy basically means that there is a provincial assembly and that there are regional rulers...but autonomy can only go to the extent of the smooth functioning of a multi state or multi province system and not beyond to create a my resources for myself only provincial stalemate/mess...teh current powers in provinces are barely being utilised appropriately with provinces not able to control weapons, terrorism, tribalism or ethnicism...karachi has been unable to even handle its electricty production and distribution.. law and orders problems have caused other provinces to grind to a halt with resources of teh punjab government being apparently blocked by the center and the punjab government stopping funds for its local bodies...sindh only getting funds where even Benazir district has billions...autonomy and supposed cloak and dagger friendly relationships with enemies has limits..a meaningless relationship with india has been proved tobe useless thruout history and probably nobody can deal with provincial autonomy either...

How it all started...coups and politics and islam and democracy...
how bhuttos got into politics in 1958...

    debacle in Dacca

    debacle in Dacca
total humiliation...India had steadily destabilized east pakistan over twenty years playing on ethnic, financial, development and military concerns...pakistan was not that rich at that time and the ethnicists played on phsychosis generated by cyclones, floods, tea and jute...the army and west pakistani politicians could not accept a bengali dominated government and a small army contingent could not defend against the mukti bahini and the indians as teh US withdrew its support as usual...When teh going gets tough teh US chickens out as usual...!! The indians have continued teh same themes in karachi, sindh and balochistan but similar tougher responses have not allowed their success although pakistan is now at best a divided land with a pathetic center...!!While it left pakistan numb at the time many now feel the seperation was a proper solution as east pakistanis did not get along with pakistan and they would be better able to solve their problems with india...others still pine away for the lost land of rivers, tea and jute...others suggest that india should handover kashmir in exchange...while some still want to repatriate those considered pakistanis and left stranded in bangladeshi camps...others however heave a sigh of relief as teh problems with the remaining provinces are generally insoluble.....and ethnic regionalism or provincialism mixed with economic and racial nonsense is not a pleasant mode of politics anyway...
